Habitat Inmobiliaria and Naturgy join forces to bring renewable gas to homes

Habitat Inmobiliaria e Naturgy únense para levar o gas renovable aos fogares

The developer will facilitate the use of biomethane as an energy source in its property developments thanks to an agreement with Nedgia, the Naturgy group gas distributor.

  • Part of the Habitat Inmobiliaria Strategic Plan for Sustainability, the operation contributes to meeting the decarbonisation objectives set by the European Union.
  • With this partnership, Naturgy takes another step forward in its commitment to promoting the energy transition with efficient and environmentally-friendly solutions.

Habitat Inmobiliaria, the leading property developer in Spain, has signed an agreement with Naturgy Group gas distributor Nedgia to facilitate the use of biomethane in property developments. This agreement is part of the developer’s Strategic Plan for Sustainability, making it the top developer worldwide in ESG performance according to the prestigious Sustainalytics ranking, as well as forming part of Naturgy’s leading role to promote renewable gases as part of its commitment to the energy transition.

Under this agreement, Nedgia will adapt its distribution network to be able to distribute biomethane in optimum conditions to Habitat Inmobiliaria developments for consumption in homes.

Initially extending to over 500 homes, this initiative favours the energy transition to a decarbonised system by bringing biomethane to these developments, a renewable gas that meets the highest natural gas quality standards.

Biomethane use in the home will not only provide heat and hot water, but its production will also contribute to better organic waste management and use, thus reinforcing environmental protection.

The two companies agree on the importance of making the energy system more reliable and flexible, as well as promoting energy solutions that help to develop the circular economy in their sector of activity.

“Partnering with a leading company in energy solutions such as Naturgy means reinforcing our commitment to sustainable consumption, which is only possible by opting for quality raw materials that reduce the carbon footprint of our buildings. At Habitat Inmobiliaria we continue to work on building the cities of the future and promoting sustainable development through the ESG objectives and lines of our Strategic Plan for Sustainability”, said José Carlos Saz, CEO of Habitat Inmobiliaria.

“The property sector is a key agent in the decarbonisation process of economic and social activity. Therefore, this agreement is a fundamental milestone, as it accelerates the presence of renewable gases in homes and businesses. The Naturgy Group, through Nedgia, wants to continue to play a key role in searching for solutions that foster an environmentally and economically sustainable energy transition through renewable gas and its distribution networks”, explained Raúl Suárez, CEO of Nedgia.
