The Gas Distributors Association for Sustainability (GD4S) held its Annual General Meeting in Brussels and appointed Narcís de Carreras, CEO of Nedgia (Naturgy group), as the new president for the next two years, replacing Paolo Gallo, CEO of Italgas.
De Carreras starts his mandate in a period marked by intense regulatory and energy policy activity in Europe, with relevant issues such as the definition of the EU Gas Package, the Methane Emissions Regulation and the approval of the Fit for 55 package measures. “We are at a challenging time for the energy sector in general and with new challenges that will shape the future of the gas sector in Europe,” he stated.
De Carreras will strengthen the functioning of the association to increase its capacity to influence the EU energy policy debate by fostering collaboration among GD4S members and with other associations. “We will continue to promote the key role of gas distributors in achieving the EU’s climate goals, and we also want to strengthen collaboration with other associations such as Eurogas, GEODE, and CEDEC, so that the European institutions can harness the full potential of gas networks for the energy transition,” said the association’s new president.
GD4S focuses its activity as a voice for gas distributors in Europe, highlighting expertise in decarbonisation policies, contributing to the development of European regulation, and promoting the role of gas networks and renewable gas in the energy transition.
Recently, the association has been involved in the development of the hydrogen market, having joined the Ready4H2 project last year. This initiative brings together more than 90 European operators and aims to define the essential role of gas networks in the development of the hydrogen market.
In 2021, the association published its White Paper, which sets out a strategic vision for decarbonisation and the future role of gas networks, as well as a Joint Declaration on Methane Emission Reductions.
